Starting the process
Entry into the program is voluntary, and requires the commitment of the agency's chief executive.
Apply online
The program takes applications online, in the Electronic Applications portal. You complete the Letter of Intent and the Application Package on screen, your Chief or Sheriff signs through a link sent to them, and everything reaches Program Staff without printing or mailing.
How it works:
- Ask for access. In the portal, choose Request access and give your agency, your name and your email. Program Staff review it and, once approved, email you a link to set up your account.
- Set up your account. The link lets you choose a password and connect an authenticator app on your phone, which keeps your agency's paperwork secure.
- Send the Letter of Intent. Fill it in and send it to your Chief or Sheriff to sign. Program Staff reply with a welcome letter and your invoice, and answer questions while you complete the rest. What the letter says and why.
- Complete the Application Package. Fill in the four forms, have them signed the same way, and send them to MSLEAC. You can see where each one stands at any time.
The fee is not collected in the portal — Program Staff generate an invoice and email it to you.
